Reality comes from our own personal reality

“The sea you are looking at is real and everyone wants something different from it. As filmmakers, you have nothing to do with the real sea. You must give it new meaning. This is where art gets balanced with philosophy. Art and philosophy are not there so you can prove existence. They are here to breakup reality and express newer ones which are not forms, but norms, and playing these games are necessary to reach those norms; to say we will turn everything to anything and change the meaning of anything to something else. So once we say we are going to make a film about water, we should imagine what versions of water we might have. Naturally it gives life but as we saw in this movie it can also take away life.” – Abbas Kiarostami
